Antimicrobial Resistance Committee
The purpose of the Antimicrobial Resistance Committee (AMRC) is to:
- provide advice and assistance to the NZVA Board to progress the NZVA’s goal that "by 2030, New Zealand Inc. will not need antibiotics for the maintenance of animal health and wellness"
- lead and advocate for the availability and efficacy of antimicrobial agents.
The AMRC does this by:
- identifying issues of scientific and public concern in the areas of animal health, animal welfare, public health, food safety and the environment which relate to antimicrobial use in animals
- providing an informed consensus on identified issues, through discussion and consultation with key individuals and organisations
- coordinating, guiding and supporting the NZVA Board and special interest branches with matters relating to AMR and antimicrobial use (AMU).
- liaising with and providing advice and feedback to national and international authorities, organisations and agencies on AMR and AMU issues.
