Strengthen your profession

NZVA members help shape the future of the veterinary profession by informing our advocacy work. We present a united voice, ensuring your interests are considered when it comes to matters relating to animals, humans and the environment.

The NZVA is your voice. We work closely with our members, committees, special interest branches and Member Advisory Group (MAG) to advocate for the veterinary profession on matters you care about. We make sure your voice is heard and your interests are considered. Key areas where we have advocated for the veterinary profession include:

  • the independent review of veterinary education in Australasia
  • public confidence in veterinarians
  • changes to animal welfare codes
  • emergency response and disaster management
  • bringing overseas veterinarians into the country during COVID-19
  • exotic disease response
  • live exports

Strengthen your networks

With nearly 4,000 members – including veterinarians, AVPs, students and retired vets – there are plenty of opportunities to  build your professional and personal networks.

Expand your knowledge and connect with practising veterinarians through our special interest branches (SIBs), groups and networks. As an NZVA member, you’ll get exclusive access to publications, newsletters and online forums to keep you up to date with SIB news and activities.

Build your social and professional network before you graduate. Students studying at Massey University will automatically be added to the Central Regional Network, which holds regular meetings that are free for NZVA members.
