2025 membership drive branding

Strengthen your future

This year, we’re challenging you to strengthen your future with the NZVA Te Pae Kīrehe. Our 2025 branding is inspired by native flora and fauna – in particular, the tūī and the harakeke (flax) plant, both of which hold great meaning for many New Zealanders.

Our new membership logo incorporates four main elements that together tell an inspiring story.

The tūī

The vibrant tūī represents the knowledge, skills and experience of our members. In Māori culture, tūī are known for their high intelligence. In fact, some tūī were so smart they could be trained to recite karakia or mihi!

It’s no secret that veterinary professionals and students are highly intelligent as well, which is why we chose the tūī as the centrepiece of our logo.

The harakeke

The harakeke plant signifies strength, versatility and community. Harakeke is extremely robust and versatile, much like our members who use their skills for a wide range of jobs and careers within the veterinary industry.

Harakeke also symbolises community and whānau in te ao Māori, with the outer leaves (the parents and grandparents) protectively surrounding the inner leaves (the child). I like to think the veterinary community operates in a similar way. At the centre are our students and recent graduates – the future of the profession. They are surrounded by the experienced veterinary professionals who nurture and guide them, and the NZVA which supports and advocates for the profession.

Strengthen your future

The ‘Strengthen your future’ tagline is a call to action. We want to empower you to shape your future – both as individuals and as a profession. Through the NZVA, you can strengthen your skills, your career, the wider profession, your networks, and your team or business. Your membership opens doors to a range of benefits, including discounted CPD, evidence-based resources and advice, robust wellbeing support, networking opportunities and more.

Hei hua mo āpōpō

Lastly, we have included the Māori phrase, ‘Hei hua mo āpōpō’ which loosely translates to ‘an abundant future’. This is our hope for you, and for the veterinary profession as a whole.
