Changes to NZ immigration
As part of the staged border reopening, the criteria for long term critical workers has been changed.
This now means that those earning at least 1.5 times the median wage (NZD $84,240 a year or NZD $40.50 an hour) are eligible for this visa. There is no minimum experience requirement for this visa (our border exceptions were previously 3-5 years out of veterinary school).
Employers can apply direct to Immigration NZ on behalf of their employee. All the employer needs to do is complete the Employer request for critical worker exception form.
- When you get to the question Why does your business or agency need to bring critical workers to New Zealand? Select Skilled workers who are paid 1.5 times the median wage.
- Once the expression of interest from the employer is completed and approved, the individual will be contacted to apply for the visa.
- When completing this form, it is important to provide as much relevant information as possible.
- Where it asks for evidence to support the case for critical workers, employers should include a copy of the contract as well as a covering letter stating the impact on their clinic by not having the individual employed.
