Alternative proteins could help reduce global emissions. Will they change the role of dairy veterinarians?

Join the NZVA Climate Change Champions to learn about these food production developments. Food scientist Anna Benny will:

  • give us on overview of the New Zealand dairy industry, including what we make from milk and where it goes
  • explore the current development of alternatives, and why these pose a risk to New Zealand dairy specifically
  • detail the risks and limitations of the technology
  • present some interesting case studies, including Mars and Nestle.

Anna Benny is a food scientist married to a dairy farmer. Having spent the last 12 years working in the food industry around the world, she is fascinated by how food is produced and consumed. Living on a dairy farm with a career as a technical manager in food manufacturing plants gives her a unique end-to-end perspective of New Zealand's food production sector.

Anna completed the Kellogg Rural Leadership Scheme in 2021, investigating the risk alternative protein could pose to New Zealand's dairy industry. She is part of the governance team for Clutha Development and Otago South River Care.
