  • Likely shifts - 4 days/week (which will vary depending on RDO's and demand). 8.30am - 5.30pm.
  • Is on-call or out of hours required? Yes. One night per week and one weekend in six. May be asked to do more depending on staff availability.
  • Clinic opening hours are 8.00am - 5.30pm.
  • Can you supply or help with accommodation? Perhaps. We're working on this.
  • Can you assist with travel costs? Yes.
  • Can you supply a vehicle (for work or private use)? Yes.
  • How much sole charge work will there be? When the veterinarian is the only one on duty. Only weekends on-call. Have other veterinarians available for case discussion if required.
  • How many veterinarians at each practice? Frankton: 3-4 and Arrowtown: 1-2.
  • What pay rate are you offering, or is it negotiable? Negotiable.

We are looking for an experienced locum, available anytime soon until mid-January, who might like to catch the tail end of the ski season and help us out at a time we have some unforeseen staff challenges.

We are a predominantly companion animal practice (95%), with a small equine/farm animal component. While a mixed practice veterinarian would be ideal, we will consider solely companion animal applicants if they are the right fit. We have two clinics in the Queenstown Lakes area, a new companion animal hospital and surgery in Frankton and a branch practice in nearby Arrowtown, both with breathtaking views of the Remarkables.

We usually run 3-4 veterinarians in Frankton and 1-2 veterinarians in Arrowtown. Frankton hosts the majority of our procedures, with occasional surgical and dental days in Arrowtown. While there maybe days where there is a sole vet in Arrowtown, all complex medical and surgical cases are referred to Frankton.

Both clinics are well equipped, including digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray, ultrasound and full dental and surgical suites. Our PM system is Ezyvet and we use the Smartflow hospital system.

We have a team of highly trained veterinary nursing staff, who are a credit to themselves for the standard of care they deliver. We also have an exceptional reception team, focused on excellent customer service. We are a veterinary workplace that focuses on the mental health wellbeing of our staff, in an industry that has many challenges on that front. Consequently, we have many staff members who have been with us for many years, and our staff turnover is low.

This position includes the Christmas and New Year period. The successful applicant will be expected to be available over this period, to share the workload and on-call with the other veterinarians.
