Position type: National Clinical Director

We're looking for an experienced and driven veterinary professional to step into a newly created leadership role that will shape the future of clinical operations across our network of clinics at Animates Vetcare. 

As our National Clinical Director, you’ll bring together your veterinary expertise, leadership skills, and commercial mindset to support and lead our veterinary teams.

This role has the flexibility to be based at our Support Office in Auckland (preferable), or from a remote office in Wellington, where frequent travel to Auckland will be required.

This full-time position will be split between working in our clinics across Auckland, Wellington, and Palmerston North, giving you the unique opportunity to make a real impact on both people and practice.

What the role looks like:

  • Operational leadership: You’ll oversee and support the day-to-day performance of our clinics, ensuring high standards in clinical care, client experience, and operational efficiency. You’ll help streamline processes, troubleshoot challenges, and keep everything running smoothly across the group.

  • Team leadership & development: You’ll work closely with our Veterinary Directors and wider clinical teams, supporting career development, fostering collaboration, and maintaining a strong, positive culture. You’ll also lead our Veterinary Advisory Board and help shape clinical strategy across the network.

  • Clinical standards & patient care: You’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving clinical quality and consistency. From supporting CPD and mentoring programs to ensuring best practice care, you’ll help lift standards across all clinics.

  • Commercial strategy & growth: You’ll help execute clinic performance strategies, identify growth opportunities, and support new clinic integrations. Your ability to balance clinical quality with commercial outcomes will be key.

  • Recruitment & onboarding: You’ll support the recruitment and successful onboarding of new vets across the business, ensuring they feel confident and well-integrated from day one.

  • Marketing & community engagement: Collaborate with our marketing team to support campaigns that drive client engagement and promote the strengths of our clinical teams in local communities.

What you’ll bring:

  • BVSc (or equivalent) and full registration to practice in NZ (note this is not a practising role).
  • 3+ years of leadership experience in a veterinary setting, ideally across multiple sites.
  • A strong understanding of veterinary operations, clinical workflows, and business performance drivers.
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring veterinary teams.
  • A collaborative leadership style with excellent communication skills.
  • Confidence navigating both clinical and commercial conversations.
  • Experience with practice management systems (e.g., Ezyvet) is a bonus.
  • Flexibility to travel to multiple regions, to be present in clinic, often at short notice.
