About the clinic:
The Waikato After Hours Veterinary Hospital (WAVH) provides urgent and emergency care to companion animals across Hamilton and the wider Waikato region. We're open nights, weekends, and public holidays, delivering high-quality medicine and compassionate care when pets need it most.
Our purpose-built facility is equipped with a full IDEXX lab, blood gas analysis, SmartFlow inpatient system, digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, endoscopy, ECG, and advanced monitoring tools including capnography, doppler, and oscillometric blood pressure.
About the role:
This isn’t your average veterinarian role! If you thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with a varied and challenging caseload (no nail trims here!), this is the job for you.
- Work flexible night and weekend shifts — perfect if you want to complement a daytime role or need variety
- Join a skilled team of ECC veterinarians with full mentorship available to support your growth
- Manage a wide range of emergency and critical care cases, keeping every shift engaging
- Utilise advanced facilities including an onsite lab, digital radiography, ultrasound, and comprehensive patient monitoring
This is a casual position, with shifts available on nights and/or weekends as part of our after-hours team—when the fun stuff happens. Must be comfortable working sole charge.
About you:
You’re a motivated veterinarian with a passion for animal care and a proactive approach. You’ll thrive in this role if you:
- Genuinely care for pets, clients, and colleagues
- Work well independently and collaboratively
- Communicate clearly and confidently with clients and the team
- Are committed to ongoing professional development
- Hold a veterinarian qualification registerable in New Zealand
- Have 2+ years of experience in a clinical environment
- Experience in ECC or ready to take the next step into emergency care
