Organisation/clinic: Aorangi Veterinary Services

Location: Geraldine, South Canterbury, New Zealand

Position type: Production Animal Veterinarian

Website: https://www.aorangivet.co.nz/

Are you looking to combine an awesome production animal veterinarian role with the quintessential Kiwi lifestyle?

Look no further than Aorangi Vet Services in South Canterbury, New Zealand!

In the small, but perfectly formed, rural town of Geraldine lies a community which is a true mix of traditional Kiwi rural and bustling international cosmopolitan.

Being on the tourist route to the Southern Lakes, Tekapo, Aoraki/Mount Cook and Queenstown, Geraldine has become home to many a visitor who first travelled through and then fell in love with this picturesque village which boasts an arty vibe.

This is a place where the locals leave their gumboots at the cafe door to grab their double shot mocha latte with almond milk on the way to work. Work being anything from jumping onto the tractor to plough a field through to remote working for a multi-national armed with laptop and mobile phone.

Lifestyle is paramount to Geraldines, so Saturday mornings are reserved for brunch al fresco at any one of our eateries or maybe a stroll to the farmers market for produce and coffee while a local band plays. Gigs, shows and events happen almost weekly and that's before you even think about biking, hiking, skiing, sailing, bush walking or just chilling on the beach...

About the job:

We are looking for an experienced, passionate, forward-thinking production animal veterinarian who has a progressive evidence-based approach to their work. For the right candidate this role will be dairy focused, and we want you to feel supported by our team and confident to deliver excellence to our clients.

We operate a mixed practice afterhours roster which is shared across our veterinary team to ensure this is not onerous.

Remuneration is competitive and negotiable, based upon experience, skill set and ability.

About us:

We are an owner/operator mixed animal practice serving Canterbury and the Mackenzie Country for more than 45 years. With clinics in Geraldine, Fairlie, and Timaru, our vision is to be the people's veterinary practice of choice.

Judging by our loyal client base, we think we're on the right track.

We are a team who fosters positive relationships through communication and awareness and we're proud to deliver progressive evidence based veterinary medicine. We focus on preventative animal health to improve the lives of people and their animals.

Our private independent practice places value on having a high-functioning collegial team, that achieves our goals while having fun. We consider ourselves a supportive, and quality-motivated practice. Our emphasis is on providing high standards of client care, good outcomes, and a sense of satisfaction from a job well done.

We have veterinary nursing and technician teams to support us in providing excellent veterinary medicine. This allows us to practice preventative medicine with an animal health and wellbeing focus, in a positive environment.

As you would expect of rural New Zealand, we have a significant farm animal and companion animal client base, and our team of veterinarians comprise those with a mixed role and those who focus solely on their area of interest.

Over the years, this has resulted in the development of expertise in areas such as small animal production, orthopaedics, emergency medicine, sheep AI, acupuncture, cattle nutrition, and membership in dairy cattle medicine. We value continued learning and find it rewarding helping our clients.

Mentorship is available and actively encouraged. Our afterhours roster is minimal and varies with seasonal demands.

Our offering to you:

We're located in the stunning South Island of New Zealand, about 1.5 hours south of Christchurch and its international airport.

With a drive time of just over an hour from mountains to the sea, we truly live the snow to surf lifestyle here. The Timaru District offers an enviable way of life with high quality affordable housing, access to excellent facilities, schools, and great cafe/dining scene, plus one of New Zealand's best loved beaches.

Wanaka, Queenstown, and the Southern Lakes all beckon as easy weekend visits, as does majestic Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.

We're foodies here at AVS, so there is always a stocked fruit bowl and snacks, plus plentiful morning teas and other social celebrations through the working week and year. We take wellbeing seriously with trained mental health first aiders in each clinic and we have a wellbeing committee who are always seeking out tips and tricks to help support us to live our best life.

We care. For each other, for the animals and for our clients. Come join us.
