Location: Timaru, South Canterbury

Position type: Companion Animal Veterinarian

Website: https://www.aorangivet.co.nz/

We're living the dream here in South Canterbury - would you care to join us?

If you love stunning vistas, the great outdoors, coffee culture, live music, biking, skiing, sailing, lazy days at the beach, farmers markets, theatre, events, and a cool community vibe, then we've got just the job for you!

About the job:

We're seeking a passionate, forward-thinking companion animal veterinarian who will fit into our close-knit team at our BESTPRACTICE Timaru clinic. This role provides an interesting caseload with motivated and caring animal owners. We support our companion animal veterinary service with up-to-date equipment, a high-functioning veterinary nursing team, collegial veterinary training and mentorship and proactively encourage formal CPD. To be the people's choice of veterinary practice our team strives for excellence.

We're flexible and would consider full, part-time or job share for the right person.

The remuneration package we offer is competitive and negotiable, based upon experience, skill set, and ability and includes:

  • 5 days CPD annually
  • Relocation allowance (if relevant)
  • Staff discount on professional services
  • Opportunities to get involved in project work.
  • Reasonable afterhours - shared among our team and with another practice, so not onerous.
  • Paid New Zealand Veterinary Association and Veterinary Council of New Zealand registration/membership.
  • Mentorship is available and actively encouraged.

About us:

We are proudly an owner/operator mixed animal practice and have been serving Canterbury and the Mackenzie Country for more than 45 years. We're locals serving locals.

With clinics in Geraldine, Fairlie, and Timaru, it is our vison to be the people's veterinary practice of choice. Judging by our loyal client base, we think we're right on track.

We are a team who fosters positive relationships through communication and awareness and we're proud to deliver progressive evidence based veterinary medicine. We focus on preventative animal health to improve the lives of people and their animals.

Our private independent practice places value on having a high-functioning collegial team, that achieves our goals while having fun. We consider ourselves a supportive, and quality-motivated practice. Our emphasis is on providing high standards of client care, good outcomes, and a sense of satisfaction from a job well done.

We have veterinary nurses and technicians to support us in providing excellent veterinary medicine. This allows us to practice preventative medicine with an animal health and wellbeing focus in a positive environment.

We have a significant farm animal and companion animal client base and as you would expect in modern veterinary clinics, we are fully equipped with all diagnostics, routine, and specialist surgical equipment.

Many of our veterinarians have areas of special interest: small animal reproduction, orthopaedics, emergency medicine, sheep AI, acupuncture, cattle nutrition, and membership in dairy cattle medicine. We value continued learning and find it rewarding helping our clients.

Our offering to you:

We are located in the stunning South Island of New Zealand, about 2 hours south of Christchurch and its international airport.

With a drive time of just over an hour from mountains to sea, we truly live the snow to surf lifestyle here. The Timaru District offers an enviable way of life with high quality affordable housing, access to excellent facilities, high quality schools, and a great cafe/dining scene, plus one of New Zealand's best loved beaches.

Wanaka, Queenstown, and the Southern Lakes all beckon as easy weekend visits, as does majestic Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.

We're foodies here at AVS, so there is always a stocked fruit bowl and snacks, plus plentiful morning teas and other social celebrations through the working week and year. We take wellbeing seriously with trained mental health first aiders in each clinic and we have a wellbeing committee who are always seeking out tips and tricks to help support us live our best life.

We care. For each other, for the animals, and for our clients. Come join us.
