Voluntary recall of some Sportmix pet food products
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) have advised us New Zealand is one of the countries potentially impacted by the Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc recall of some of its Sportmix pet food products.
On 30 December 2020, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted a voluntary recall announcement from Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc regarding some of its Sportmix pet food products. These products may contain potentially fatal levels of aflatoxin, with reports of illness and death in some dogs in the USA. The recall was expanded to include additional products on 11 January, and last week the FDA shared with the AVMA the potentially contaminated pet food products may have been distributed internationally.
