Board Position Announcements

The NZVA Board is pleased to announce further appointments to the Board.

MAG Board member

In July, the Member Advisory Group (MAG) elected Simon Clark as Chair and MAG Board Member.

Simon grew up in urban Auckland with a passion for science. Having graduated with a BVSc in 2001, Simon attended a rotating internship at the Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles from 2006-07 and was the Head Small Animal Veterinarian at Levin and Horowhenua Veterinary Services from 2009 until 2014.

Simon joined Virbac as a Technical Advisor and Product Manager in 2016 and the same year graduated with a Masters of Veterinary Medicine majoring in Companion Animals. Simon currently works at Hamilton Small Animal Veterinary Centre.

New Graduate Observer role

To increase diversity around the Board table, the Board recently advertised for a developmental non-voting veterinarian position for individuals with fewer than five years’ experience. The Board was encouraged to receive a number of applications for this role.

After careful consideration, the Board appointed 2021 graduate Ella Poole-Crowe to the role. Ella grew up in rural Whangarei, a perfect backdrop to fulfil her appetite for the outdoors, animals, nature and sports.

Ella is passionate about all aspects of the veterinary profession. In the early stages of her career, she has already been involved in research, sustainability and wellbeing initiatives.

Ella has also attained a number of sporting achievements in equestrian and hockey. Ella currently works as a mixed animal veterinarian at V.E. Veterinary Services in Te Awamutu.

Recent Graduate Advisory Group

Impressed with the number of applicants for the role, the Board decided to establish a Recent Graduate Advisory Group. This advisory group will be a way for recent graduates to work with NZVA President Kate Hill to identify issues and opportunities relating to recent graduates. If you are interested in finding out more about this group, please contact Kate on president@vets.org.nz

Appointed Governance Professional

In July, the Board decided to appoint Corey Regnerus-Kell to the Appointed Governance Professional Role for a term of two years. Corey had the most governance experience and training of the two applicants for the role. Corey previously filled the role of Appointed Veterinary Member since November 2020.
