Organisation/clinic: McMaster & Heap Veterinary Practice

Location: Christchurch

Position type: Companion Animal Veterinary Surgeon with experience in soft tissue and orthopedics.

We are a large and busy, privately owned single-site small animal practice in the South of Christchurch. We are seeking a keen experienced Veterinary Surgeon to help with a large, varied soft tissue and orthopedic surgical caseload.

McMaster & Heap Veterinary Practice started in 1999. We employ 11 veterinarians and 20 veterinary support staff, who all go above and beyond for their patients and each other. We see referrals from all over Canterbury and the South Island in Ophthalmology, Ultrasonography and ECHO, Endoscopy, CSF taps, Chemotherapy, and Medicine cases. Our environment is supportive, talented, accommodating, friendly, and we all strive to be our best.

We have a new, dedicated surgical suite that is extremely well-equipped. The surgical gear was meticulously organised by specialist surgeon Dr. Helen Milner. We have the instruments and capabilities to perform BOAS soft tissue surgery through to all orthopedic and spinal surgery. We have a dedicated sterile surgery and theatre.

We have just become the first veterinary practice in New Zealand to have a dedicated animal MRI facility on-site, run by Pacific Radiology Group.

We have a modern, beautifully designed practice which separates out canine and feline patients in terms of waiting areas, consulting rooms, ICU and treatment areas, and hospital wards. We have all the high-tech equipment to enable us to do the best possible job for our patients including a full IDEXX lab, digital radiography, IM3 dental radiography, extensive anaesthetic monitoring equipment and the like. Our veterinary software is ezyVet and we have SmartFlow for patient monitoring.

We are ideally looking for a surgeon with post graduate qualifications in surgery or a veterinarian working towards this. Consideration would be given to a confident veterinarian with significant surgical experience, who does not have post graduate qualifications. You will have a very skilled, passionate qualified veterinary and veterinary nursing team to work alongside.

Specific hours, days, and start dates are negotiable and flexible.

Remuneration is very negotiable! We pay for Southern Cross Medical Insurance and CPD is valued and encouraged.
